Watermelons Are Back - Harmattan Season Coming to an End

The first major watermelon consignments of the season have started landing at Mile 12, marking a clear transition away from peak harmattan trading conditions.

Traders in Zone A report stronger early-morning demand from retailers, fruit vendors, and households preparing for hotter weather. Supply from Ogun and Kaduna has increased steadily over the last two weeks, and buyers are already seeing improved size consistency and color quality.

Market management expects volumes to rise further through the next month as more farms complete harvest cycles. Buyers are advised to shop early for the best selection and to coordinate bulk collection ahead of peak weekends.

For wholesalers, this return of watermelon stock is also a useful indicator: transport lanes are normalizing, and several other seasonal fruits are expected to follow into Mile 12 shortly.
